For further reading on this topic, see the sixth edition Publication Manual section “Citing References in Text” (pp. 679 – 679). The table “Basic Citation Styles” (Table on p. 677) offers many examples of how to cite various numbers and types of authors. 5665

  • If you are writing an APA style paper, then you are going to have to follow to rules very carefully in order to not have points taken off for formatting issues. This is why it is so important to start the paper off with a clearly and concisely written thesis statement. This will help you to put a stake in the ground about the side of the argument that you are taking for the duration of the paper. Once you have written your thesis statement and chosen the side of the argument that you are going to support with facts and statistics, you can begin researching.

MLA style formatting is mostly used for papers written in humanities and liberal arts. MLA style indicates certain formatting standards for documents and provides a referencing system for outside sources used in essays. The proper use of MLA style protects authors from being blamed in plagiarism since proper formatting allows them to use materials written by other writers in a legitimate way. Here are some general guidelines for your MLA paper:

Type your title in upper and lowercase letters centered in the upper half of the page. APA recommends that your title be no more than 67 words in length and that it should not contain abbreviations or words that serve no purpose. Your title may take up one or two lines. All text on the title page, and throughout your paper, should be double-spaced.
